Salsa Hip Hop and Steelpan in May

This summer inter-relate all your favorite dance forms to cultivate deeper physical expression with your dancing. Weather you enjoy Kizomba, Bachata, Salsa or Zouk, HOW you relate to and interpret the music is a skill to continue cultivating. FOLKLIFE PERFORMANCE  Sunday May 28th, Mural Amphitheater Balorico will present a new piece set on the Seattle Women's' Steelpan Group inspired by the African spirit of OYA and the strong beautiful women of the group. Composer Ann Reynolds has created a unique arrangement of Songo Borracho for steelpan, plus a surprise group of amazing percussionists will be adding a touch of Afro Peruvian rhythms to the concert - excited!  Contact us if you are interested in volunteering. FREE dance classes will be offered at Kenyon Hall as part of our Open House and we welcome Jonathon, an accomplished Hip Hop artist who will be co-teaching lessons with me. See you Monday 12/15! Schedule of classes below: 3pm Mini-Ballrom (ages 4-6) 4pm Youth Ballroom (ages 7+) 5pm Hip Hop & Swing with Jonathon & Vanessa 5:30 Hip Hop & Waltz 6pm Salsa & Bachata 6:30 Tango & Merengue 7pm-8:30pm Dance Party for all ages. (Yes you can bring the kids)$15 adults/ $5 (kids 5 and up) NEW CLASSES FOR 2015 WILL BE ANNOUNCED THEN. Also tonite Saturday Dec. 13th, I'm performing in the De Inga & Mandinga show produced by De Cajon Project at Langston Hughes Theatre -come share in a bit of our Latin American and African Diaspora history weaved together through dance and poetry.

A full weekend of dancing events around Seattle! Some highlights include the launch of our Summer Youth Program starting June 7th for kids & teens. Fellow mambo dancer Andre Mintz opened his new studio in Fremont this weekend and Balorico was there to promote AfroPeruvian culture with a little festejo! At the hall this weekend we also hosted our first Open House (Hip Hop meets AfroPeruvian/Salsa beats...check it out) Free youth preview classes begin May 10th - Ballroomagic TM 4pm (ages 8 and up) followed by a Hip Hop all ages class at 5pm with guest artist Erik Paul $10. It was a great evening of live music and dancing. After the Salsa Mixer, guests waltzed, tried some American Tango and danced to some fun Hip Hop choreography. Performances included an American Tango by Balorico dancers Magda Cygan (Polandia), Joey Hughes (good 'ol USA), Kristina Clark(Mejicana-Peruana-Americana) and Ilya Kilmov from Russia.... an imprompt AfroPeruvian dance duet by Kristina and myself...and w...
